Quilts of Love

A few weeks ago I read on Tammy's blog about a program by Downy that provides quilts to hospitalized children. I am always interested in helping kids and provide what quilts I can to my favorite charity. However, after reading what Tammy had to say about the program and seeing what she had done, it just sounded right to me. So I took myself to the Downy site, filled in all the information they asked for, and in a few days I received a kit to make the quilt pictured below. There was very little cutting to do as all the basics were done. All I had to do was some subcuts in the four patch. They even included a beautiful label to attach to the back. I love the colors and it was a lot of fun putting it together. I received great satisfaction in stitching this for an unknown child, knowing it would bring comfort some day.

As soon as I got my kit I sent an email off to my sister in Maryland telling her about it and she got her kit just as quickly. The only negative part of this picture is that my sister and I can't be together physically to stitch. But that is minor in all things considered. We are together in our hearts, minds and stitches.

The kits include everything you need to make the quilt except the thread and batting. There is an easy to follow pattern. All they ask is that you machine stitch everything, including the quilting and return the finished quilt to them within 4 to 6 weeks. I plan on doing several of these in the following months, plus using some of my stash to stitch up even more love. Life is good my friends.
